Humanities 4AP Literature and Composition

The 4AP program is designed to challenge and enrich the level of understanding of students identified for their superior level of English skills, critical thought and self-motivation. Students will concentrate on further development of the essay, and detailed analysis of British literature. The University of California recognizes this as an honors class and, therefore, adds one extra point in computing one’s G.P.A. Students in English 4AP are encouraged to take the College Board
Advanced Placement Test in May. Students who receive less than a B at the mid-semester may be moved to a regular English 4 class.

Essential Learning Outcomes (ELOs)
In the design of the AP English Lit exam, the College Board lists the following as essential understandings: Character, Setting, Structure, Narration, Figurative Language, and Literary Argumentation.

There are specific skills in each of the areas of understanding that are prioritized and addressed; with the help of their teacher, students will set goals and track progress toward proficiency/mastery in each area.

A full list of skills related to understandings and organized by genre can be accessed on the College Board website (pp 19-23).
