Freshman Math Placement: During the Spring of the student’s 8th-grade year, multiple measures are used to determine 9th-grade placement. These measures include 7th and 8th-grade CAASPP scores, 8th-grade teacher recommendation, and mathematics screening assessment results.

Within the first 30 days of school, all 9th-grade students will be given another mathematics assessment. Results from the assessment are used in conjunction with the above measures to either confirm placement or recommend a change of placement.

The Mathematics Department at Nevada Union High School prides itself on its diversity of courses and the expertise of the faculty.

The department has created a multitude of classes for students to take as they progress further in the math sequence. Our department teaches classes that meet all students' mathematic needs:  there are classes that range from Pre-Algebra and a two-year Algebra 1, to AP Calculus and Calculus Honors. Students who have attempted the AP tests in Calculus have a better than 95% passing rate.

The department is confident that successful students will have developed the ability and tools to thrive in college mathematics. One way the department helps with student success is to offer two different math tutoring programs. In addition, teachers are available daily to help any student who seeks mathematics assistance.
