This course is designed to provide students with reading and writing skills needed for post high school work. The focus is on refinement of the essay form, research skills, and a chronological study of British literature.
Essential Learning Outcomes (ELOs):
California State Common Core Standards* (ELOs):
- Quarter 1 GOAL: Identify and use effective voice and tone, and write a narrative essay for college and/or scholarship applications. In all of our writing this year, we will be working on stylistic maturity -– i.e. vocabulary, syntax, support, organizational structure, detail, etc.
- Quarter 2 GOAL: Hone our critical/literary analysis skills as we study the texts of our unit on dystopian literature.
Quarter 3 GOAL: Continue to hone our critical analysis skills, focusing on informational and rhetorical texts both historical and current. - Quarter 4 GOAL: focus on the speaking and listening standards and the Senior Project presentation.
